Ask Me Anything:

What are the highlights of your experience since joining the school?

Lifelong Learning and Professional Development, Innovation in Education, Global Citizenship & Sustainability, and Wellbeing & Support—these are the core values we uphold to attract, grow and motivate the best educators in the world. Hear from our teachers:

Eileen Law
Economics Teacher

I was on one of the committees working on embedding sustainability into the school curriculum. Our school started to introduce a PD course offered by Green School, Bali, this year. It’s an introductory course to education for sustainability. Two really interesting initiatives that I find the school has done this year: the first one is called “Save September Challenge”, trying to reduce our water consumption, electricity consumption, etc. The other initiative is our “No Carbon November”.

Hayley Allison
Psychology And Liberal Arts Teacher, E-safety And Wellbeing Lead, Houseparent

The most fulfilling part of my experience is on the wellbeing side. I’ve been quite passionate about that, developing it within the school. I’ve brought about student days like “Are You Ok? Day” and we’ve brought in staff wellbeing. I’ve also been part of a strategic group putting together the wellbeing framework.

Margoth Shellard
Spanish Teacher

Living and working in China has been fun and exciting. We have an amazing HR team that took care of us. They understood that it was our first time in Asia, that we were really new to this experience and made sure that we were very well taken care of.

There have been loads of courses. When you start at the school, there are a lot of training programmes and EiM provides an amazing amount of online workshops. I did the IB training course, where I was expanding my expertise in IB teaching and learning. It has been a really wonderful experience.

The school is really passionate about professional development. Since I’ve been here, I’ve done several courses to improve my teaching and to improve myself going forward. I’ve done the Nassea course, which is a course to better yourself for English as a foreign language teaching. I’m also trained as an IACS Manager, which is a course directed at being proactive for mental health.

Eileen Law

I was assigned a mentor. She is our current Deputy Director. That really helps me to develop a better understanding and working relationship before I actually take over that role. Also, she will be my line manager, so I think this is really valuable and it also gives her a lot of opportunities to share her experiences.

Ask Me Anything:

What is the unique strength of the EiM network?

EiM schools are located in the world's most vibrant cities. Being an EiM employee means working in an international environment, experiencing new cultures and speaking new languages with us. It also means being part of a supportive and rewarding community that thrives on challenge, and where practical, emotional and logistical support is on hand when it’s needed. The school has many dedicated senior leaders, teachers, and staff. Being an employee of EiM, you do have a lot of opportunities to move to other cities to work. That is something very attractive for teachers who look for different experiences.

Margoth Shellard

Being part of the EiM network, you get emails of the vacancies in advance, just before they go out publicly. You scroll down and see which positions inside the group you would like and which other cities or countries you would like. That was really nice.

Hayley Allison

It was a really difficult decision to make, to move to China. My daughter was only 6 or 7 at the time, but since we got here, she has been absolutely thriving. She’s in a much better school with better opportunities. They also have lots of extracurricular activities.
